Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs, 54, had a liver transplant about two months ago, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. There has been lots of speculation about Jobs’ health condition since he first addressed this issue at an Apple event in October. It was obvious that Jobs was seriously ill, given his worsening physical shape at that time.
Jobs is going to return to Apple part-time in late June or early July already, but his future position in the company remains uncertain. It is possible that Apple COO and interim CEO Tim Cook will play a more important leading role and that he will be voted to the company’s board of directors soon.
During Jobs’ time off Cook was able to double Apple’s stock price. Although this can hardly be ascribed to Cook’s transitional role as CEO, some analysts think he would be the right person to lead Apple in the future.
