Pownce, the Twitter competitor once labeled “the hottest startup in Silicon Valley” by the New York times is shutting down. The service, co-founded by Digg’s Kevin Rose, will be closing its doors on December 15.

This is an email I just received from Pownce:

We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15, 2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new pro accounts.
